There’s a Reason These Devices Are on the ARTG

We already established something important:

Safe use isn't just about what's inside the device. It's also about how the patient uses it.

But that raises another question.

What about what's actually inside the device?

Let's look at two long-standing devices that are included in the ARTG.

START WITH THE MIGHTY+ MEDIC.

At first glance, you might see:

Hybrid heating. Cooling Unit. Precise temperature control. Booster. Superbooster. Automatic shut-off. Dosing Capsules.

But knowing those words isn't product knowledge.

Understanding why they're there is.

HEAT → CONTROL → COOL → PROTECT

The hybrid heating system combines convection and conduction to control how heat is transferred through the material during operation. The point isn't to tell a patient “hybrid is better” — it's to understand what the technology is doing.

The 40–210°C temperature control, together with Booster and Superbooster functions, gives the patient visible control over the device's operating temperature. A pharmacist can explain how those controls work without deciding the patient's therapeutic temperature.

The Cooling Unit has a specific job: cooling the aerosol before inhalation.

And automatic shut-off powers the device down after inactivity, helping prevent unnecessary continued operation.

Suddenly, you're not just reading features.

And that's the difference between knowing a feature and understanding its purpose.

Ask:

What is this feature doing?
Why is it there?
What does the patient need to understand about it?

EVEN WHAT'S IN THE BOX HAS A JOB.

The same thinking applies to what's inside the box.

Dosing Capsules provide a contained way to place prepared material into the device and can reduce direct contact with the Filling Chamber.

The Filling Aid assists with transferring material.

The Cleaning Brush supports routine maintenance.

Screens and sealing rings support airflow and sealing and are components that may need maintenance or replacement over the life of the device.

They're not simply “extras in the box.”

They're part of operating and maintaining the device as intended.

NOW LOOK AT THE VOLCANO MEDIC 2.

The same philosophy — in a very different format.

The VOLCANO MEDIC 2 is a desktop system.

Its MEDIC VALVE Balloon allows aerosol to be collected into a balloon and separated from the device for use.

Its hose system provides another manufacturer-designed delivery configuration.

Its Filling Chamber, Dosing Capsules, valves, screens and other components each have a role in how the device is prepared, operated and maintained.

Some are also patient-specific consumables with defined replacement requirements.

That's important pharmacy knowledge.

Because supporting the patient doesn't end when the box leaves the counter.

SO WHY ARE WE LOOKING THIS CLOSELY?

Because these aren't simply two devices with impressive feature lists.

The MIGHTY+ MEDIC and VOLCANO MEDIC 2 are ARTG-included medicinal cannabis vaping devices, both listed under ARTG 525733 and approved on 20 April 2026. The TGA states that ARTG-included medicinal cannabis vaping devices have been approved for quality, safety and performance, and encourages their use according to their ARTG registration and instructions for use.

That's why understanding the device matters.

Not so you can memorise every specification.

So you can look at a feature and ask:

What does it do?
Why is it there?
What does the patient need to know about it?

REMEMBER THIS

DON'T MEMORISE THE FEATURE.

UNDERSTAND WHY IT'S THERE.

Because once you understand the why, you're no longer reading the side of the box.

You're explaining the device.

DON'T JUST TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT
